The simplest approach is using Claude Code. Since Obsidian stores all notes as local markdown files, you can open a terminal, navigate to your vault folder, and run Claude from there. Once you do that, Claude automatically has access to your notes and can read, search, and edit them directly, because it is operating inside that folder.

If you are using Claude Desktop instead of Claude Code, the setup requires an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. This is exactly why people use it alongside Claude. NotebookLM helps you understand and break down complex information, while Claude is better for writing, structuring, and turning that information into final outputs.
