DocHub Review 2026 | My Brutally Honest Take

In a market full of e-signature tools and PDF editors, DocHub positions itself as an all-in-one solution for editing, signing, and managing documents online. On paper, it promises a lot: PDF editing, reusable templates, AI assistance, and integrations with Google Workspace.

But how well does it actually deliver? To answer this question, I tested DocHub hands-on to see how it performs in real life.

What is DocHub?

DocHub is an online document management platform that lets users edit and sign PDF files. It combines PDF editing, digital signature tools, and cloud storage integrations like Google Drive and Google Workspace into one app.

Founded in 2014, DocHub is used by millions of individuals and businesses to manage important documents securely. The platform continues to expand its features, including tools like an AI Assistant, while focusing on practical document editing, signing documents, and collaboration in a user-friendly environment.

DocHub is SOC 2 Type II compliant, ensuring it meets high security standards. Also, it encrypts all data with 256-bit SSL encryption, making it highly secure against unauthorized access.

A Practical E-Signature App with Gmail and Drive Add-Ons

Scroll down, and I will show you its key features, pricing model, and pros & cons I found during my DocHub review.

Key features

Without further ado, let’s break down DocHub’s key features!

Dashboard

At first glance, DocHub seems clean and very well-organized. While many e-signature tools use a simple document list as their homepage, DocHub offers a structured dashboard that provides a clearer overview of everything in one place.

It shows all documents along with a complete activity log for each one, so it’s easy to track progress and see what has happened at any stage. If you’re working with multiple contracts at the same time, this level of visibility is genuinely helpful.

And if you’re working with a large volume of documents, you can use filters and labels to make navigation much faster. There is also a search bar that lets you find documents by title or associated email address, which adds another layer of convenience.

Beyond the main dashboard, DocHub separates documents into additional tabs. The Documents tab displays uploaded files that have not yet been prepared or sent for signature.

The Inbox tab contains documents that require your attention, such as files waiting for your signature or action. It clearly highlights items that need immediate response, so you can prioritize tasks.

The Sent tab, on the other hand, shows documents you have already sent out for signature. From here, you can monitor their status, see whether they are in progress, completed, or waiting, and track recent updates without opening each file individually.

From here, you can also cancel the signing process for a document that you’ve already sent by clicking on the void a sign request option. The document becomes invalid for signature, and recipients can no longer complete it.

During my DocHub review, I found that it lets you create and store multiple signatures and initials, which matters if you sign documents in different capacities or manage more than one entity. You can add and manage them under Settings → Signatures, but what I liked is that you don’t have to leave your workflow. You can also create a new signature directly while preparing a document.

The standard options are there: draw your signature, upload an image, or simply type it. There is no built-in stamp option, which some businesses might miss, especially if they rely on official company stamps.

What really stood out to me was the QR code option that lets you use your phone as a signature pad. You scan the code, sign on your phone, refresh the document page from which you scanned the code, and it will appear instantly in the document.

The whole process took me just a few seconds. To me, it felt much more natural than signing with a mouse or trackpad. I have tested quite a few e-sign apps before my DocHub review, and this is the first time I have seen that option.

Preparing documents

As I mentioned, you don’t have to create your signature in advance; you can add it directly while preparing documents.

You can upload documents from almost any tab, and you’re not limited to just one file at a time. Files can be imported from your computer, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Box, or you can start from a blank document.

If you upload multiple files, you can either keep them as separate documents or merge them into a single envelope. This is useful when you want several files to be signed as part of one signing process.

Once uploaded, you move into the editor to prepare the document. DocHub advertises its ability to edit documents, but in practice, this works more like annotation-style editing rather than full PDF text editing.

You can add text, insert fields, highlight, underline, and use the whiteout tool to cover existing content. However, you cannot directly rewrite the original document text the way you can in some tools like Xodo Sign. So if someone expects native text editing, DocHub can feel a bit limited here.

The available fields cover the basics: text, paragraph, checkbox, image, attachment, signature, date, etc. There is no option to create custom fields, but each field can be adjusted individually. You can mark fields as required or optional and assign them to specific recipients.

Recipients can also be added later when you’re ready to send the document. At that stage, you can define permissions such as who can sign, annotate, receive a final copy, require verification, or sign in person. You can also set reminders and write a custom email message for the signature request.

In addition to sending documents for signature, DocHub allows you to email them as attachments or send them via fax. Overall, the process of adding, preparing, and sending documents felt straightforward and easy to follow in the course of my DocHub review.

Templates

If you prepare a document that you plan to reuse, you can save it as a template directly from the editor. This part is straightforward and practical.

Instead of rebuilding the same agreement or form from scratch, you can turn it into a reusable template and speed up future workflows. These templates are stored inside your account and can be reused whenever needed.

Audit Trail

DocHub does not offer a dedicated reporting or analytics dashboard, but it does provide an audit trail for signed documents.

Each document includes a detailed activity log that records key actions such as when it was sent, viewed, signed, or modified. You can also download the audit trail, which can be useful for compliance purposes or internal record-keeping.

While this is not the same as having advanced reporting or performance analytics, the audit trail adds a layer of transparency and accountability to the signing process. For most small teams and freelancers, this level of tracking will likely be sufficient.

Team Collaboration

Beyond the personal dashboard, DocHub also allows you to create and manage an organization.

From the organization’s view, you can invite multiple users, assign roles, and manage visibility settings. Roles such as Owner or Content Manager define what each member can access and control. You can also adjust document visibility to add a layer of privacy when it’s needed.

In the People tab you can see who is part of the organization, their role, and their status. You can easily invite new users and set permissions.

Another interesting new feature is Rooms, which appears to be designed for shared document spaces. However, this feature is only available on the Pro plan.

Overall, DocHub’s collaboration tools are not very complex, but they cover the essentials. For small teams that need basic role management and shared access to documents, the setup is practical and easy to manage.

AI Assistant

DocHub also includes an AI Assistant designed to help with document-related tasks. The feature is built into the editor and aims to help with summarizing and modifying documents, providing technical support, and more.

I’ll admit, I didn’t expect much from it at first. In many tools, AI features feel more like marketing additions than something you actually use.

However, during my DocHub review, it genuinely surprised me. I used it to help with a few technical support-related questions, to rewrite sections of legal documents, and even to draft parts of new documents. It proved to be more useful than I initially anticipated.

At first glance, DocHub’s interface seems clean and well-structured. The layout is modern, the main navigation is clearly organized on the left sidebar, and core actions like uploading documents or sending sign requests are easy to locate.

Integrations

DocHub is often praised for its seamless integration with Google Workspace, making it a preferred choice for users within that ecosystem.

You can install DocHub’s native add-ons directly from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

The Google Drive integration allows you to right-click on a file and open it in DocHub without downloading it first. From there, you can edit, add fields, and sign documents directly inside your browser, then save the updated version back to Drive.

The Gmail add-on works in a similar way. You can open attachments directly from your inbox, import them into DocHub, edit, and sign them.

But it provides more. Beyond Google Workspace, DocHub also connects with major cloud storage services like Dropbox, OneDrive, and Box.

My experience with DocHub

My experience with DocHub

Overall, during my testing of DocHub, I found the core signing experience smooth and reliable. Uploading, preparing, and sending documents felt straightforward, and features like the QR code signature option and AI Assistant genuinely improved my workflow.

I also really liked the Gmail and Google Drive add-ons, because they genuinely made my workflow easier and saved me time by allowing me to open, edit, and sign files directly from my inbox or Drive.

That said, there’s still room for growth. The PDF editor works more like an annotation-style tool rather than a full-featured PDF editor, and the platform would feel more complete with broader third-party integrations, such as Zapier, as well as a built-in library of ready-to-use templates or forms.

Those additions would make it stronger for more advanced or high-volume workflows.

DocHub offers a free plan and a generous 30-day free trial on its paid plans.  

The Free plan includes limited PDF editing (3 documents per month), up to 5 eSignatures per month, limited access to the AI Assistant, and mobile app support. It’s suitable for occasional use, but the document and signature limits are restrictive.

The Basic plan is $8 per month. It includes advanced PDF tools, fillable PDFs, reusable templates, document folders, and small team collaboration features. This plan is more practical for freelancers or small businesses that need consistent document workflows.

The Pro plan removes most limitations. It includes unlimited eSignatures, unlimited PDF editing, unlimited envelopes, extended AI Assistant access, bulk send, in-person signing, and secure document storage. For most regular business users, this is likely the most balanced option. It’s priced at $12 per month.

Finally, the Site License plan is custom-priced and includes unlimited users, SSO, HIPAA support, priority support, organization management, password protection, and volume discounts. This plan is clearly designed for larger organizations with compliance or enterprise requirements.
