I am a content creator myself, so I was really excited to try Submagic and see how it can transform my workflows when it comes to video creation. In this Submagic review, I will tell you everything I found about this video editing app during my testing.
I share its key features, pricing, and the pros and cons you need to know to find out if this is the right video editing tool for you. However, it will be more than just a simple review.
I will also give you an honest and unfiltered opinion on how it affected my video editing processes and what you can realistically expect from this tool.
Let’s dive in!
What is Submagic?

Submagic is a video editing tool that uses artificial intelligence to create captivating subtitles in a few minutes. You only need to upload the video, customize the subtitle animations, add some background music, and voila, you have your video ready to be published on social media platforms.
It is one of the most popular video editing tools for creating short-form videos, as over three million businesses use it daily.

Key features
Let’s see the features I tried during my Submagic review!
AI-powered captions and transcription
One of the most popular features of Submagic is the automatic captions and transcription. You can access these features when you create magic clips or just want to transcribe your videos.

If you only want to get transcription and AI-generated captions, just click on the “Generate Captions” tool. You can easily upload raw videos by dragging and dropping them. Submagic allows you to upload MP4 and MOV file formats with a max length of five minutes and a max size of 2 GB.

The upload speed depends on the size of your video. Personally, I have spent 5-10 minutes uploading videos. I felt it was a bit slow, but fortunately, you can leave the window and deal with other stuff.

When it comes to magic clips, you can insert links to YouTube videos or simply upload MP4 or MOV files. Needless to say, you can use only your content. Otherwise, you violate copyright laws.
You can choose from different clip durations and the language. For example, Submagic generated 19 clips from one video covering different parts of the content.
So, you have the possibility to select which ones are the best for your YouTube shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok.
Customize captions
After you upload the videos, you can start customizing the captions. Let’s start with the design of the AI auto-captions.

By default, Submagic creates TikTok video captions in plain, white text without any styling. However, you can choose from numerous caption styles. You can use other popular creators’ caption styles like Alex Hormozi, Devin, Iman, or Mr.Beast.
I loved the flexibility here; you can move the automatic captions and adjust their size and color. This way, you can add captions that exactly fit your video.
Let’s take a look at the accuracy of the automatic captions!

During my Submagic review, I experienced that it provides accurate captions. The only time when I encountered issues was about brand names.
Nevertheless, you can easily change things by manually adding captions. Based on my experience, it is safe to say that Submagic creates captions above 97% accuracy.

It is great that you can add and change the emojis that SubMagic uses for each scene. Therefore, you have the creative control to fine-tune the message you want to deliver to your audience.
Whenever you change the captions, you can check on the right side how it would look. This makes the caption editing process way faster, as you can quickly check whether the design suits you.

Finally, you can emphasize part of your short-form videos or hide that specific line. It is a small thing, but it can help increase viewer engagement.
Video editing and trimming

After the video upload, Submagic allows you to trim videos by deleting the parts you do not need. It is quite easy, even if you have no experience in video editing at all.
You can zoom in and out, so you can precisely cut the unnecessary parts of your video. It is useful to select the parts in the transcripts that you do not want to in your short videos.
B-rolls
This feature is a valuable video editing tool. But let’s take a step back; what is a B-roll?
B-roll is supplemental or alternative footage that is intercut with the main in a video. Content creators like you and me use it to provide context, enhance storytelling, or illustrate what we are speaking about.
For instance, if a video features an interview about content creation, a B-roll might include shots when people are writing, participating in podcasts, and more.
Hope you know get the idea. Now, it is normally quite a time-consuming process to find the right pictures and videos talking from my own experience.
So, I was quite happy when I saw that during my Submagic review, they have a feature for this.

With just a few clicks, users can insert stock footage into the scenes they want. When you click on the scene, Submagic automatically detects what you speak about and serves the relevant results.

Therefore, you do not need to manually write anything; just select the picture or video you want to use, and that’s it.

In addition to stock videos and images, you can upload your own pictures and videos. So, everything is right at your fingertips when creating engaging short videos.
Background music

During your video editing process, you can apply background music and sound effects. When it comes to the background music, Submagic offers different categories from which you can choose depending on the atmosphere of your YouTube shorts.
Overall, integrating these functions into Submagic means that you can practically make your short-form content in one single app.
Other video editing tools

Inside the B-roll tools, you can also add zooms for specific scenes. You have two choices here:
- Manual editing
- Let AI do the work
When you click on one of the scenes of your short-form videos, you can apply different zoom effects. For example, zoom fast, crash zoom out, or smooth zoom in.
However, if you click on the Magic Zooms, Submagic’s AI saves time and adds various zoom styles to your transcript to increase visual appeal.
Collaboration tools
Submagic also has some essential collaboration features if buying one of the higher-tier paid plans. You can create a workspace where you can share your projects, subscriptions, and templates with your team members so you can work together on these materials.
My experience during Submagic review
As a content creator, I have always loved to test tools like Submagic. There is a simple reason behind it: creating content on a regular basis is a tough job, and I am always looking for ways to save time and automate workflows while keeping the same or even better quality.
And I can safely say that Submagic is an excellent tool for this if you create short-form videos. While I mostly make longer videos, I can see the value that Submagic offers.
I discovered during my Submagic review that by using this video editing tool, I could easily cut down the time required to create videos by half.
I especially enjoyed using the AI-powered tools, which further accelerated the video editing process. Also, it is really great that Submagic integrated every tool you need to edit short-form videos into one platform.
There are only two issues I found during my Submagic review. The first is a minor one, which is the video uploading speed. It would be fantastic if this process would be a little bit quicker.
Secondly, the free version is quite limited. Essentially, it only allows you to try the features, and that’s it. As the exported videos have watermarks, you probably will not publish them on social media platforms.
But overall, I had a very positive experience with this video editing tool. If you are someone who makes a lot of YouTube shorts, Instagram Reels, or TikTok videos, this is a must-have tool.
What do users say about Submagic?
I was also curious about what other users said about this video editing tool, so let’s look at the latest user reports from Trustpilot.

I also had the same feeling with the user interface. It is quite simple, so you can easily navigate it and find the key tools you need.

Since I didn’t have any experience with customer service, I wanted to see how Submagic performs in this area. Fortunately, based on the reports I found, they have a strong customer support team.
For me, it’s a significant advantage when a brand offers effective customer support, as it can be incredibly frustrating to need assistance and receive responses not in days but in weeks.
