While the first one is more like a structured AI meeting system, built to support your entire workflow, from preparation to follow-ups, with strong controls around privacy and accuracy, the latter leans heavily into versatility, analytics, and broad integrations across platforms.

This is why I created this Fireflies AI vs Fellow post to help you decide. I will break down their key features, pricing, pros and cons, and share my honest experience with both AI note-takers after using them for more than 20 online meetings.

If there are meetings where you do not want Fellow to join automatically, you can easily change it in the user settings menu or simply remove or pause the recording in the meeting.

This is a key differentiator from Fireflies AI, as some users prefer to use botless recording. Fellow gives users the flexibility to choose between bot and bot-free recording, depending on the type of meeting they are joining.

If you want to transcribe calls without a bot, Fellow offers the same enterprise governance as its bot-based recordings. Just select the “Record without bot” option from your meeting, and Fellow will record your meeting in the background without compromising privacy and security.

Alternatively, if you want a bot to join, Fellow always asks to be let into a meeting and appears as a participant, so everyone knows the meeting is being recorded.

The transcription of your meetings takes only a couple of minutes, and you can access them. Based on my experience, the transcriptions are highly accurate – I’d say 95% and higher. Also, Fellow uses timestamps and speaker IDs, so you can easily track who said what.

Recordings library and channels

Fellow automatically records calls, which you can access through your transcription and meeting notes. I found the recordings library valuable, especially for teams or larger organizations. You can organize your previous meetings into custom channels and auto-publish your recordings to the right ones.

Furthermore, you can create new channels for yourself or even your whole company. Essentially, this library helps you structure your meeting recaps and offers an excellent way to organize your meeting history, and a way to share recaps with people who did not attend those meetings but want access to that information.

For example, the CEO can be a part of the Sales calls channel or the Project Check-In channel even if they didn’t attend those meetings, and then use “Ask Fellow” to ask for insights and updates from those conversations.

AI meeting notes

Fellow’s AI summaries provide you with the key insights, action items, and decisions from the meeting. Essentially, the AI summaries just save a ton of time, as you no longer need to go through the entire transcription.

I also love that you can assign the action items to your team members with Fellow, so it is clear after each meeting who is responsible for what.

Ultimately, my overall experience with Fellow’s AI meeting notes was great. After my virtual meetings, it automatically generated meeting notes linked to your meeting transcriptions and recordings.

Meeting agendas

The meeting agenda is a helpful pre-meeting tool for establishing clear talking points and action items to address during the call. I found it pretty fascinating that Fellow implemented AI not only in the meeting and post-meeting phase but also in the pre-meeting stage, which is a big differentiator from other AI meeting notetakers. You can ask AI for topic suggestions or chat about specific parts of your meeting agenda.

The pre-meeting AI briefs provide information on everyone in the meeting as well as a recap of the last meeting. This was extremely valuable for my back-to-back meetings when I didn’t have time to prepare properly.

Whoever from your team will attend the meeting can also add their thoughts and assign the talking points and action items to others. You can also create a private note that you can see during the meeting.

Lastly, Fellow’s Agenda Builder helps you generate headings and talking points for your meeting using the title of the meeting and the calendar description.

Clips

Clips are a helpful way to capture and highlight key moments and share them with your team members. When you click on the recording, you will access the full recording, summary, and transcription of the virtual meeting.

Here, you will also see the option to clip a snippet of the call. After selecting the start and end time, you just need to save the clip, and voila, you can save it in the recording library or share it with teammates.

You can even use the “Ask Fellow” chat to ask it to create a clip for you. For example, you can prompt it to “create a clip of when the customer said X” and Fellow will generate the clip automatically!

Ask Fellow

Ask Fellow utilizes your meetings and channels across your organization that you have access to (even if you didn’t attend) to provide up-to-date and comprehensive responses. So, it is more than just an AI chat, as it collects all the critical information from your organization to answer questions. However, you can use it in individual meetings as well.

I found it pretty efficient for getting meeting information and answers to meeting-related questions. You can ask Fellow any questions regarding your meetings, for example, “What did we decide on X topic?” or “What should I follow up on from yesterday?”, and even get insights from meetings you did not or could not attend, if you are a part of the recording channel where that meeting is stored.

It offers an excellent way to handle both external and internal calls and provides incredibly helpful collaboration features.

It supports collaborative agenda creation, you can assign action items,, and easily share the meeting notes with others. Fellow is built with collaboration in mind, which means that even when you’re using their botless recording functionality, internal attendees in your organization will know that they are being recorded.

Similarly, Fellow will always prompt you to invite attendees to the meeting agenda and AI notes if you are recording an impromptu huddle or meeting, always keeping collaboration and alignment in mind.

Now, it’s time to delve into Fireflies AI’s features!

Recording and transcribing meetings

You can easily invite Fireflies AI’s bot to live meetings, and it will automatically record and transcribe meetings.

Fireflies AI transcribes your meetings with speaker ID’s and timestamps. If you click on the transcript, it will jump to the part of the recording where it was said. You can also modify the transcript with a few clicks.

Compared to Fellow, I noticed more errors during my testing, but ultimately, it offers reliable transcription.

In addition to online meetings, you can also transcribe video and audio files. However, if you use the free plan, you can not transcribe files above 100 megabytes. Generally, it takes about 10-15 minutes to get the file transcribed with an AI summary.

Meeting summary

Fireflies AI offers users a meeting overview regarding the key topics discussed. The summary includes action items, keywords, and discussion topics. It helps users save time by not going through lengthy transcriptions and allows them to focus on their next tasks.

Furthermore, you can easily edit and share meeting notes with a few clicks. Besides the meeting notes, Fireflies AI will also forward the meeting recording and transcription whenever you share the notes with one of your team members.

You can choose from numerous meeting templates, and Fireflies AI will structure the summaries accordingly. I loved that it has the function to customize such meeting templates.

Live assist

In addition to post-meeting summaries, Fireflies AI can also help you during meetings with its Live Assist feature.

For example, this feature can quickly summarize what’s been discussed so far, point out action items as they come up, or help you catch up if you join a meeting late. This is a lifesaver in longer meetings, where it’s easy to lose focus or miss a few important moments.

Advanced search capabilities

We all know how frustrating it can be when looking for specific information in meeting notes. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Using Fireflies AI’s smart search capabilities can save you this hassle. Fireflies AI helps you filter specific points from virtual meeting transcripts, such as questions, key metrics, dates, and more.

Conversation intelligence

This AI meeting assistant can analyze voice conversations and provide meeting insights about speakers, topics, and sentiments. Accessing this meeting data helps to measure and improve your performance over time during calls.

In addition to accessing insights about speakers’ talk time, you can see other key metrics like the number of questions asked, time spent in voice conversations, longest monologues, filler words, and talk-to-listen ratio.

It’s great that Fireflies AI offers a centralized platform where you can organize your team’s meeting notes, recordings, and transcriptions in one single place. This feature is useful for any team, but it can be especially valuable for recruiting or sales teams, which have many external meetings.

Soundbites

With Fireflies AI, you can generate short audio clips from different parts of the call to share with your team. These audio snippets are called Soundbites, and they can be useful when you want to share the most key moments of an hour-long meeting.

Ask Fred

Finally, it has an AI assistant called Fred that helps to collect information, action items, and key takeaways from previous calls. It’s great that you can filter on period, channels, hosts, and participants. It works like ChatGPT, and you can ask anything about a call, and it will give you answers in seconds.

While Ask Fellow can generate answers based on specific channels — making it much more precise for team-level insights — Ask Fred doesn’t support channel-specific search, so its responses pull from meetings across all channels rather than a filtered source.

Overall, I was satisfied with this feature, which helped me find meeting decisions, tasks, and information more quickly.

Honestly, none of these occurred with me when using Fireflies AI, but I wanted to give you a full picture of safety, including others’ experiences as well.

My experience with Fireflies AI

Fireflies AI is one of the most popular AI meeting assistants, and I see it as justified. It is versatile, offers some advanced features, and has reasonable pricing.

While Fireflies AI is definitely among my top 10 AI meeting assistants, I could not place it in the top three results. The main reason behind this is its security policies, as elaborated above, and accuracy issues.

Don’t get me wrong, Fireflies AI is an accurate AI meeting assistant, but I experienced higher accuracy with Fellow or Fathom.
