This ngram review will be completely different from our normal testing phase. We not only test features and try to uncover their strengths and limitations, but we also use them for our own app’s launch video.

How ngram Performed on a Real Marketing Project

The first video I got from ngram for our campaign was around 90% publish-ready. The quality really impressed me, which isn’t an easy task since I have high standards as a content creator who has already recorded and edited +100 videos.

The animations, motions, and the flow of the video exactly nailed the feeling I wanted to create, and ngram worked well with the assets and prompts I provided. Most importantly, it didn’t have the generic “AI-generated” look that many AI video tools still struggle with.

However, the video was not perfect and needed some adjustments to reach 100% publishable content according to my standards.

And this is where I started to feel ngram’s limitations.

It makes changes based on prompts, and while I tried to be really accurate with the instructions, it did not work out in some cases. So, in the end, I started to make some final adjustments in my video editor.

In the end, I only needed a handful of manual edits before exporting the final version. Overall, I estimate ngram saved me around 30–40 hours of work and roughly $500–$2,000 in production costs.

To sum it up, my experience with ngram was great, but not perfect. After creating more versions for the launch video of Floviu, I realized that even if you get only an 80-90% publishable video with ngram, it will be worth the investment.

How I created my marketing video for Floviu with ngram

Let me reveal my experience with ngram step-by-step.

What I Learned Before Clicking “Generate”

When starting the process, you can select the type of video you want to create with ngram. As mentioned, I selected the product launch for my SaaS.

After, you can select the length and the platform where you want to primarily publish the video. You can also provide additional information like text and a URL to give ngram more context for the video.

I created my videos around one minute, and my main platform was YouTube. Since Floviu’s website was not ready when testing only the app, I described the idea for the video.

Then, I uploaded videos, images, and selected the narration.

But the most interesting part was the style. I mostly used the auto, but if you have clear ideas in your mind, you can opt for the paper cutout, 3D Pop, Doodle, and other styles.

I loved the level of depth here, as I could choose the story flow, background music, watermark, subtitles, and target audience.

Based on my experience, the better your inputs, the fewer AI credits you’ll spend on revisions later.

Also, I recommend you start the process once you have the application and website, and a clear idea of your target audience and your aim for the video. Otherwise, you will just burn your credits, as it will require many edits inside and even outside ngram.

What Happened After ngram Generated the Video

The whole video generation process took around 2 hours. ngram created the scenes, background music, script, motions, and more.

And honestly, the quality was surprisingly high. As I mentioned above, it was almost in a publishable stage for me. My expectations are probably higher than those of most founders because I’ve produced and edited more than 100 videos. That made the quality even more impressive.

So, the fact that ngram delivered this quality impressed me.

It breaks down the whole video into scenes, and with its built-in video editor, you can make some high-level changes. However, ngram was not designed for advanced video editing.

You can split and delete scenes, change background color, and move the voiceovers. And basically that’s it. Nonetheless, these settings are sufficient for making a few smaller adjustments before exporting, especially if you don’t have a subscription for a dedicated video editor.

Until this point, my experience with ngram has been flawless, and I was impressed by its capabilities.

Refining the Video with AI

On the left side, you can ask ngram to make changes, such as replacing pictures, removing scenes, choosing a different voiceover, changing the visual style, and more.

One thing I quickly realized is that asking AI to modify an existing scene is much harder than generating the first version. Small edits often affected other parts of the video, so I got the best results by making larger changes in my video editor instead.

It offers plenty of avatars and voiceover options. Personally, I only used the voiceovers since I did not need an avatar in my launching video. Nevertheless, they can be useful for “how-to” type videos.

Making changes in the voiceover was easy and relatively fast.

However, when I started asking for modifications to the video, things sometimes went wrong. For example, I asked to remove a person from the scenes. It was successfully removed. Afterward, I asked to make a scene longer, and suddenly the person appeared again.

This was frustrating sometimes. Luckily, there is an option to revert to previous versions, so it did not affect the video negatively. But still, all the changes require AI credits, so you have to be cautious about what you ask from AI.

Also, I had to wait around 10 minutes to get one change. So, it is also time-consuming, particularly if you make changes throughout numerous scenes.

After making the most crucial AI adjustments, I took over the editing from there, partly using the built-in editor and partly my video editor, and I finalized the video.

Cost vs value

If you choose the Free plan, you will get 300 credits, 720p export with a watermark, and 30 sec AI generation. In my opinion, this will be only sufficient to get a quick look at the capabilities of ngram.

The Basic plan is $23.20 monthly with annual billing. You will get 1800 credits, 3 minutes of AI generation, unlimited manual edits, AI text generation, and access to the default models.

If you need ngram for creating a longer video, the Plus plan is $47.20 per month billed annually. It gives you access to 6 minutes of AI generation, brandkit, and 3600 monthly credits.

For me, the Plus plan offers the best balance between AI credits and flexibility if you’re creating product videos regularly.

The limitations I hit are the change requests, but apart from that, ngram performed really well for our marketing project.
