It does not have a web app, so you can utilize Rize only on your desktop. Rize is available on macOS and Windows and automatically captures time spent on your desktop’s focused window. For websites, Rize connects and requests the URL you use to categorize any time spent in browsers.

Essentially, Rize is designed for business owners, freelancers, managers, and anyone who values their time and wants to optimize their efficiency.

Here are the key features I tried during my +12 months Rize review!

Automatic time tracking tool

Rize automatically captures the time spent on your computer, so you do not need to use timers. Whenever you start your PC, Rize will automatically track your workflows and categorize them into different categories.

Don’t be afraid; you can turn off automatic tracking anytime if you click on the power button in the bottom left corner. Also, you can add activities manually if you want and make manual changes. So, you can add new activities or drag and drop the activity you selected.

The daily summary on the right side is quite useful, as you can get a quick overlook of how you spent your time so far. Nevertheless, you can change it to weekly, monthly, yearly, or custom views.

For example, here, I just filtered my time tracked in April. It is great that you can easily switch between these views.

If you click on the timer tab on the left, you can manually finish a session or add goals to each of them. Personally, I did not use this feature too many times, as I preferred the way how Rize automatically tracks my time management.

Customizable categories

Rize is an automatic time-tracking tool that categorizes your time spent into different activities and sessions. If you move your cursor to the specific activity, you will get a more detailed breakdown of your activity.

During my Rize review, I probably changed the activity’s category manually one or two times at maximum. So, Rize did a very good job of identifying the web pages and what activity I do exactly.

However, you can also create new categories if you can find the right one for your activity. You can also choose whether you want to change it for the selected time period or if you want to create this rule moving forward.

Besides the activities, Rize also uses sessions. Sessions are periods dedicated to focus time, meetings, and breaks.

Similarly to the activities, if you move your cursor to a session, you will get a more detailed view. I am not going to lie, guys; such data about your focus time can be brutal sometimes. It is just eye-opening sometimes when you see how much time you spend on unnecessary activities.

Overall, the automatic time tracking and activity categorization worked great for me and helped improve personal productivity.

AI notifications

Some of you guys probably run your own businesses or manage too many projects at the same time. I really appreciated Rize’s AI notifications on when to take a break based on my work activity.

Additionally, Rize alerts you when you’ve reached a certain number of hours worked in a day, which can be valuable in preventing burnout.

Reports about your time management

Rize sends you a daily report of your time breakdown and productivity metrics via email. Furthermore, you will receive weekly and monthly reports as well about your efficiency and how you spend your time.

Nonetheless, it is more than just an email with a few metrics about your time management. It attaches a PDF as well, with more detailed metrics and suggestions on how you can spend your time better and avoid burning out.

Tasks and projects

With Rize, you can add projects, tasks, and clients as well, so you can seamlessly record every moment spent on a specific project or client work.

You can choose an icon, color, budget hours, and keywords so Rize can identify the activities that relate to this project.

Such features make Rize an excellent time-tracking app for client-facing teams or freelancers.

Personal productivity insights & trends

Rize shows metrics about productivity trends and insights and allows you to add goals. I mostly used the insights, as they can provide you with some practical advice to increase personal productivity and create proper work habits.

Furthermore, productivity trends give you a bird’s-eye view of your time management. This feature makes a big difference in establishing the right work habits to avoid burnout.

Rize’s user interface

Rize has a user-friendly and clean interface. It is easy to navigate and find its key features.

The learning curve is quite short, and I had the feeling that they put a huge focus on simplicity when creating the interface.

Rize’s integrations

You can integrate Rize with your Google or Outlook Calendar to capture time in meetings even if your focused window is not the video call. This way, you do not need to manually add the time spent on meetings.

Rize’s Professional Plan includes a Zapier integration as well, so you can connect it with thousands of third-party apps.

Rize’s pricing

Rize offers free and two paid plans.

With the Free Plan, Rize retains one day of data and offers a timer and goals view, desktop widget, focus metrics and music, distraction blocker, and break screen.

If you want to try one of the paid plans, Rize offers a one-week free trial, so you can try out its features and have an idea of what you pay for.

Rize’s Standard Plan is $9.99 monthly if choosing the annual billing. If you want to have monthly billing, it is $16.99 per month.

The Standard Plan includes all dashboard views, customizable categories, daily and weekly reports, AI productivity insights, and an AI session planner. And most importantly, Rize retains all tracking data.

If you need project, task, and client tracking features and Zapier integration, you have to go with the Professional Plan. Personally, I use this plan due to the tracking features.

The Professional Plan is $23.99 monthly if the annual billing is chosen. In the case of monthly billing, it costs $39.99 per month.

If you decide to stop paying for Rize, this time, the tracking app allows you to access your account and export past data. Ultimately, Rize is not the cheapest automatic time-tracking tool on the market, but it has premium features and is worth the price.

During my Rize review, I checked their security as well. When using Rize, they host your data on Amazon Web Services, which is protected both physically and electronically.

The data is only accessible through your personal password-protected account, and any data is encrypted at rest and in transit.

Therefore, I found Rize, a secured time-tracking app that I also use on a day-to-day basis.
